Let’s Make-Up: the new beauty launches to have on your radar in October 2024

In our monthly Let’s Make-Up round-up, we bring you a selection of the tried and tested, freshest, and buzziest beauty launches that are worth adding to your basket.

All types of lotions and potions across makeup, skincare, haircare and more cross our desks and we take it upon ourselves to review them all so you don’t have to. If we include it below, then you know it’s a good ‘un.

For October, revamp your fragrance wardrobe with heady scents from luxury houses Christian Louboutin and Penhaligon's. There are five new aromas in the former’s Fétiche offering with a flacon sure to stand pride of place. Dandy by name and dandy by nature, Penhaligon's is taking us back to the 1920s both in the design of its Prohibition Era-like stopper bottle adornments and in the whisky-led elixir.

Upgrading the basics, Tangle Teezer has given its detangling tool an eco-conscious makeover, while the dentists behind the luxury dental practice in London’s Belgravia are bringing opulence to oral care with a line of chic toothpaste.

For all this and more, see our edit of the hottest beauty drops you need on your radar.

Josh Wood Colour Miracle Hair Oil

If you love a multitasking product as much as we do, you will want to add the Josh Wood Colour Miracle Hair Oil to basket. The iconic colourist behind the label has designed the formula to work in five ways at different stages in the haircare ritual.

First and foremost, you can apply it in advance of shampooing to prep the strands to lock in moisture. After washing, apply to the ends to detangle as well as combat frizz. Once your hair is dry, it acts as a finishing oil to nourish the strands, injecting some much-needed omega and fatty acid-rich kukui nut, babassu and pracaxi oils. Or lastly, you can coat your mane in it overnight for deep hydration.

Sculpted By Aimee LashLift Mascara

The eponymous makeup extraordinaire behind Sculpted By Aimee is not content on resting on the laurels of her beauty editor-favourite mascara. Aimee Connolly’s LashLift is already making a play for MyMascara’s crown with one selling every four seconds pre-launch.

The focus is on volumising with this new formula. It has been enriched with lightweight polymers that glides onto the lashes without clumping. With each swipe, the product offers that named lifting effect that makes the eye pop. It comes in ultra black and rich brown.

Put to the test by 252 people, 93 per cent saw an immediate lifting, while 95 per cent attested to the lengthening impact.

Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangler Plant Brush

Tangle Teezer is demonstrating its commitment to more eco-conscious practices with the expansion of its Plant Brush collection. The Ultimate Detangler is the latest model to have a mindful makeover with a composition of 85 per cent bioplastic created using sustainably grown castor beans - and the benefits are twofold for the planet and your locks.

While cutting waste, the brush doesn’t sacrifice on its detangling abilities where the two-tiered teeth technology that has earned Tangle Teezer its cult status is very much still in operation. There are three colourways available that correspond to a particular hair type. Look out for the marshmallow pink if you have straight to curly hair, the cool matcha for delicate strands and the pastel lemon for 3C to 4C hair types.

Christian Louboutin Fétiche Le Cuir eau de parfum

The brand behind the instantly recognisable red sole has brought its signature seductive edge to a collection of five fragrances known as Fétiche.

The striking flacons are housed in packaging designed to resemble Louboutin’s famous stiletto - defined by that sharp skyscraper spike.

Among the five eaux de parfums which include L’Ambre (defined by its main amber note alongside the green touch of patchouli), the floral-earthy L’Iris and unique L’Ebene that blends coconut with cedarwood is Le Cuir. French for leather, this is unlike its leather accord-based contemporaries as it is paired with the sensual and sweet note of osmanthus and made all the more heady with a musky base. To round off the quintet is pepper-spiced L’Encens to reflect the heady woodiness of incense.

This includes an AHA, BHA and LHA - various acids that have been called upon to manage shine and blur for an even texture. The Refine Blurring Extending Primer leaves the skin silky smooth and ready to lock in the makeup that follows.

Penhaligon's The Dandy

Designed as a nostalgic reference to 1920s-era dandyism, Penhaligon's latest aroma is for the refined gent. It captures sophistication with a scent palette that is bold and mysterious and its long-lasting scent trail will keep you coming back for more.

The Dandy is woody and a touch earthy by nature. It has a heart of aged whisky that brings a warming, boozy and masculine note, but the blend with bergamot and raspberry keeps it fresh and intriguing. At the base, cedarwood and patchouli bring a smokiness.

Like its contemporaries, this styling gadget can also be used on wet hair, drying as it goes to create a salon-level bouncy blowout. To combine two timely steps, it styles as it dries but at the flip of a switch, it goes to dry mode in which the vents are closed and you can revamp your day two locks.
