Less than 300 new Covid cases after 44 days, but Gurugram sees 1 more death

GURUGRAM: The city reported 297 new Covid cases on Sunday, down from 368 the previous day. After a gap of 45 days, the city has registered less than 300 daily cases. At 298, Gurugram last recorded less than 300 cases on January 1.

With this, Gurugram now has a total of 2,120 Covid patients. One person also succumbed to Covid on Sunday. The daily positivity rate dipped to 5.9% on Sunday from 6.4% on Saturday. Between January 9 and 28, the positivity rate was over 20%.

According to the health department, 36 Covid patients are now admitted to hospitals while the rest are in home isolation. Gurugram carried out 5,740 Covid tests on Sunday.

The patient who died was a 72-year-old man admitted to the hospital on December 16 after a road accident. He received IV fluids, antibiotics, ventilator support and other supportive measures at the hospital, where he tested Covid positive. But on Sunday, he suddenly had a cardiac arrest. He was fully vaccinated and had no comorbid conditions.

The city has reported 58 Covid deaths till now in 2022 — one on January 10, another on January 12, two on January 14, one each on January 15 and 16, two each on January 17, 19, 20, three on January 21, two on January 22, one on January 23, two on January 24, one on January 26, three each on January 27, 28, 29 and 30, two on January 31, two on February 1, four on February 2, three on February 3, three on February 4, one on February 5, February 6, one on February 7, two on February 8, two on February 9, two on February 11 and one each on February 12 and 13.

As many as 985 Covid patients have died since the pandemic began. Of them, 664 had comorbidities.

Chief medical officer Virender Yadav said, “Now, the positivity rate is around 5%, and so, testing will be only for those with symptoms. The enforcement of containment zones has been stopped. But people need to take precautionary measures while venturing into crowded areas, where the chances of spread of the infection are higher.”
