Less rain worry for farmers, 4% of cultivable land sowed in Jharkhand

RANCHI: Sowing of paddy has been done on around four per cent area out of the 18 lakh hectare cultivatable land in Jharkhand due to erratic and scanty rainfall this year. Agriculture experts, however, are keeping their fingers crossed hoping for revival of the monsoon from next week for sowing/transplantation of khariff crops (paddy) to assume pace.

The state agriculture department’s data on khariff coverage reveals that about 62,349 ha area has come under paddy coverage till Friday. Of the 24 districts, paddy transplantation has begun only in Pakur, while direct sowing has slowly started only in 10 districts.
