Leonardo DiCaprio almost missed out on his role as Jack Dawson in Titanic because he initially refused to read for the part, director James Cameron has revealed. The 1997 Oscar-winning epic helped cement the Hollywood actor’s international stardom alongside co-star Kate Winslet, who played his love interest Rose DeWitt Bukater.
In an interview with GQ magazine, Cameron, 68, discussed how the classic pairing almost did not happen, despite DiCaprio, now 48, “charming everybody” in their initial meeting. He said: “The meeting was funny because I’m sitting in my conference room waiting to meet an actor, right?
“I look around and all the women in the entire office are in the meeting, for some reason. Like, there’s a female executive producer, OK, fine. But our accountant? Why was she in the meeting?
