Leon King adds to Rangers defensive injury concerns as he's ruled out of Scotland duty

Leon King has added to the injury concerns in the Rangers defensive department as he's ruled out of action for Scotland U-21s.

The young centre-back has not been included in the team that will face Northern Ireland in this afternoon's friendly as the Scottish Sun report that he is missing through a knock. Ibrox team-mate Cole McKinnon - currently on loan at Partick Thistle - is also missing due to illness alongside Motherwell's Leeds United loanee Stuart McKinstry and Newcastle United talent Elliot Anderson.

King started for Giovanni van Bronckhorst in Rangers' 2-1 Premiership win over Dundee United last Saturday with mounting issues at the back. Summer signing John Souttar is on the sidelines and Ben Davies has been hampered by fitness issues since his move to Ibrox from Liverpool. Connor Goldson has remained an ever-present but James Sands has had to drop into defence from midfield.

A promising academy graduate has sealed his chance with performances in the Champions League and domestic matters, but King is also now injured, although how good or bad the diagnosis is isn't not known.

Goalkeeper on McLaughlin missed out the senior side through a knock. Scotland's elite youth side will play twice against UK opposition in this international window.

A trip to Hearts awaits Light Blues boss van Bronckhorst after the international window before a mouthwatering double-header with Liverpool.
