Len Goodman revealed what 'should be on his tombstone' two years before he died.
The Strictly star, 78, passed away on Saturday after losing his battle with bone cancer.
The much-loved dancer was revered by fans around the world for his time on the BBC show and its US spin-off Dancing With The Stars.
However, in an interview in 2021, Len admitted his early years were unremarkable, claiming he was 'no good at school or learning'.
"I couldn't be bothered," he said.
"Most of my life that was my attitude. It should be on my tombstone. Here lies Len - he couldn’t be bothered."
Len also said he'd lost the competitiveness in later years.
"My trouble is - I’m not very competitive. Back in the 60s and 70s when I danced, I was so competitive," he told The Sun's TV mag.
The star added: "So when that was over, it sort of knocked all the competitive side out of my body."
Despite not be able to dance as he used to, Len amassed a legion of fans on Strictly and DWTS.
He judged the latter until November last year when he announced his retirement.
Len is said to have bravely kept his health worries to himself while on the panel, with sources saying the star was the "perfect professional" until the end.
Announcing his death on Monday, the dancer's agent Jackie Gill said in a statement: "It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78.
"A much-loved husband, father, and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends, and all who knew him."
Tributes flooded in for the grandfather, who had so many fans old and young.
Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood said he was in mourning for his friend as he tweeted: "I’ve just woken up to the sad news that my gorgeous colleague and dear friend Len Goodman has passed away.
"My heart and love go out to his lovely Sue and family. Len Goody Goodman is what I always called him and “It’s a ten from Len & seveeeeern”will live with me forever. RIP Len."
Meanwhile DTWS' Bruno Tonioli said he would “treasure” the memories of the “incredible adventures and hundreds of shows".
In an Instagram post, he wrote: “Hart (sic) broken my dear friend and partner for 19 years the one and only ballroom legend #lengoodman passed away.
"I will treasure the memory of our incredible adventures and hundreds of shows we did together @bbcstrictly @dancingwiththestars “they will never be anyone like you “we will miss you”.
