JHANSI: The Jhansi Sadar lekhpal was on Thursday arrested after a video, in which he is purportedly seen demanding a bribe from an applicant went viral on social media. He was subsequently suspended.
The one-minute undated video clip purportedly shows lekhpal Santosh Gaur, probably sitting in an office wearing vest and underpants, asking 50% bribe in advance form an applicant in lieu of doing some official work.
When the applicant, who could only be heard, tells him to take the money after the work is done or by cheque, the lekhpal demands it immediately while saying that he has to pass it to his seniors, including the ADM. "Bribe is never taken in cheque, it is always taken in cash. What if the ADM demands immediately...I have to then hand it over at that time," Gaur is heard saying in the video.
