Leigh Halfpenny 'couldn't be happier' as he edges closer to making rugby return after awful injury

Leigh Halfpenny has provided an update on his rehabilitation and insists he "couldn't be happier" with how things are going.

The Wales full-back suffered a devastating knee injury just seconds into his 100th Test appearance last summer during a match against Canada. Running back a kick, he twisted awkwardly on the Principality Stadium turf and suffered serious knee ligament damage.

Little more than a year on from the injury, Halfpenny has posted videos of himself on social media running agility drills, dragging a sled with weights and bounding over agility hurdles as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Along with the videos, Halfpenny said: "Speed and agility block [done]. Just over a year since the injury and couldn't be happier with how the knee's feeling. It's been a good eight weeks training and now looking forward to some family time before pushing on to the next phase of return."

Halfpenny will be chomping at the bit to return to full fitness from his latest serious injury. After the departure of Liam Williams this summer, Halfpenny will be vying with Johnny McNicholl for the Scarlets' No. 15 shirt.

At the age of 33, he will also have desires to pull on the Wales jersey again, with the 2023 Rugby World Cup on the horizon. But with seemingly some way to go yet on his rehabilitation, talk of returning to the playing field is for another day.
