In a recent interview, Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly expressed his disappointment over the failure of bipartisan legislation aimed at addressing the border crisis and immigration issues. Senator Kelly highlighted the long-standing failure of Washington to adequately address the situation at the southern border and called the current state of affairs a crisis at both a migration and humanitarian level.
Senator Kelly mentioned that Democrats and Republicans had been working together for several months to develop a bipartisan solution. The proposed legislation included $20 billion for border security measures, such as hiring new Border Patrol agents, asylum officers, and constructing new detention facilities. The bill had garnered support from the Border Patrol Union and was backed by the Wall Street Journal.
