'Legendary' restaurant with 'singing waitress' left hundreds with fond memories

People have shared their memories of the "legendary" restaurant where they "never had a bad meal".

Since the article on Caesar's Palace restaurant was published last night, social media has been flooded with memories. The city centre site could seat more than 300 people, making it the perfect place for large groups to enjoy a meal at a decent price, with most main courses costing less than £10.

Caesar's Palace was a firm favourite in Liverpool and readers have said they are "gutted" the restaurant closed its doors in 2008 and admitting they are missing the "smashing food" and "singing waitress".

Rachel Blackham said: "Used to always go here with me mum on her many Saturday shopping sprees. It was the only way to make me go to town for jacket potato cheese and beans".

Pat Carter: "Loved the place, went with family and work friends. Never had a bad meal, always brilliant with children. I got told off for trying to clean the mess my grandson made, the staff said it was their job."

Patrick Fransz said: "This definitely was the special occasion place. Every Christmas my nan would take me and my cousins here before going to the panto at the everyman. I remember going for a few birthdays too. The mixed kebab was amazing, with hot bread and tahini, followed by ice cream."

Despite its success in the 1990s, Caesar's Palace sadly lost popularity in the 2000s. While other competitors such as Uncle Sam’s moved to other locations in Liverpool, by 2008 Caesar's Palace had closed its doors. One of the fondest memories people had of the restaurant was the "singing waitress" who would serenade people on special occasions.

Sophia Reilly said: "Nostalgic, I can still remember the smell of the food in the place and the blonde waitress with the great voice who would sing Happy Birthday to you. Definitely a special occasion place." Norma Nolan said: "We took our kids a lot too. They absolutely loved the birthday serenade."
