Leeds United fell to their second defeat of the season as they were thumped 5-2 by Brentford in west London.
Luis Sinisterra and Marc Roca scored for the Whites but a hat-trick from Ivan Toney and goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa were enough to see off Jesse Marsch’s side.
Here’s the winners and losers from the clash.

Winners
Luke Ayling
It’s been a long old summer for Ayling, who has spent the last few months recovering from the knee surgery he had in May. He’s been close to fitness for some time but he was deemed ready to travel to the Gtech Community Stadium and be named on the bench for the first time this season.
He relished the warm-up, running through drills with a smile on his face and he looked more than happy physically as he returned to the dressing room. He had to wait until the 70 th minute of the game before coming on for Cody Drameh and he immediately took a blow to the face.
The defender did well, though, creating danger down the right flank and setting up Marc Roca’s goal with a neat cross.
Ivan Toney
The striker put Leeds to the sword with three goals of the highest quality in west London. He got the scoreboard ticking over with a penalty, sending Illan Meslier the wrong way with a powerful effort.
Toney then stepped up to a lash a free-kick into the top corner from the edge of the area. Meslier was rooted to the spot as the ball weaved through the air and he could only watch on as the forward wheeled away to celebrate putting the hosts 2-0 up.
He could be seen celebrating in the second half, too, after rounding Meslier and chipping the ball into the empty net to complete his hat-trick.
Losers
Rasmus Kristensen
Despite travelling with the squad, the defender was a shock omission when the team news was released at 2pm, with Cody Drameh named at right-back. The news quickly filtered through that the Denmark international had picked up a slight knock in training during the week and therefore wouldn’t be risked.
It is hoped he will be fit in time to take on Nottingham Forest next Monday, but he’ll have been disappointed to miss a match and he looks to build momentum in this Leeds side.
Luis Sinisterra
The winger scored just before the break for Leeds, firing the ball home from just outside the area to give the visitors hope of a comeback as they went in at the break. However, he was also at fault for the penalty that set the Bees on their way at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The referee initially waved away Brentford’s appeals for a spotkick, but VAR stepped in and replays showed Sinisterra clumsily bringing Toney down in the area. Robert Jones changed his decision, pointed to the spot and Toney tucked it away to give Brentford the advantage.
Sinisterra was busy throughout and looked a danger but he tired in the second half before being substituted.
Jesse Marsch
The head coach was shown a red card in the second half after completely losing his cool on the touchline as Leeds appealed for a penalty. Crysencio Summerville appeared to be pulled back in the area before hitting the deck, but the official waved away the Whites' appeals.
Marsch could be seen going completely ballistic on the sidelines, demanding the referee watches the incident back on the monitor. Jones ran across the field to have a word with his fourth official and without hesitation brandished a red card to send Marsch down the tunnel.
Diego Llorente
The defender had a game to forget in west London as three errors in the second half allowed Brentford to run away with the contest. Llorente failed to track runs through the line in the build-up to the Bees' third and fourth goals, but his mistake for the fifth was truly embarrassing.
Dallying on the ball, Llorente could only watch on as Yoane Wissa nicked the ball off him and fired the ball beyond the hapless Illan Meslier. With Liam Cooper fit again and on the bench, it seems Marsch has a selection decision to make ahead of next Monday’s game against Nottingham Forest.
