Leeds United winger Jack Harrison recognised with Premier League award nomination

Jack Harrison has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for January.

He is among six top-flight players in the running for the accolade after standing out for Leeds United during the last few weeks.

The 25-year-old scored four goals in just three games as he added a brilliant hat-trick to his opener against Burnley at the beginning of the month.

His match-winning performance against West Ham is, of course, the driving factor behind his nomination as the Whites secured consecutive victories for the first time this season at the London Stadium.

Harrison’s goals were vital in Leeds’ push away from the relegation zone and, while the Newcastle defeat dragged them closer again, it was still a very productive month for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

The other nominees are: Jarrod Bowen, Kevin De Bruyne, David de Gea, Joao Moutinho and James Ward-Prowse.

Harrison is the fifth Leeds player to be nominated for the accolade since the club returned to the Premier League last season.

Raphinha (February 2021), Illan Meslier (March 2021), Stuart Dallas (April 2021) and Rodrigo (May 2021) were all on the shortlist at some stage last term.

Harrison is the first from Bielsa’s squad to be nominated this season and will be hoping to become the sixth Leeds player to win the award when the winner is announced next week.

Tony Yeboah (March & September 1995), Alan Smith (August 2000), Paul Robinson (November 2000), Robbie Keane (January 2001) and Rio Ferdinand (October 2001) all picked up the Premier League award whilst wearing the famous white shirt.

Without a real stand-out contender for this month’s iteration of the award, Harrison will be quietly confident of being selected as the winner.

There is a public vote available, for which you can find the link here, and the results of that will be combined with votes from a panel of football experts.
