Leeds United warned they 'left it too late' to sack Jesse Marsch

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has warned Leeds United they may have left it too late to sack Jesse Marsch after a dismal run of results. The ex-defender says the Whites have missed an opportunity to bring Sean Dyche into the club, who has done well with Everton since taking over.

Keown wasn't able to pinpoint why Leeds have been knocked back by a number of candidates after Andoni Iraola, Arne Slot and Carlos Corberan all rejected approaches according to reports.

Keown told talkSPORT: "It seems clearly Leeds can get the people that they want to the club. All manner of people have been mentioned.

"I'm looking at how wealthy Leeds is as a club, it's the 18th wealthiest football club in world football right now based on turnover. So, they should be able to attract a top quality manager.

"I think they're a little bit late - it's interesting now isn't it, Sean Dyche is now doing a great job at Everton, they've left it too late haven't they, with Jesse Marsch and getting him out. All the signs were there for a long, long time.

"He kept talking about development, progress and we didn't really see it match up. We called it codswallop in terms of what he was saying afterwards in the games.

"I do feel that the quality of player they've got in this group and they've been supported really well in the transfer market, I think there's a good enough squad here to get them out of trouble. When I look at McKennie in midfield and Adams, they really harry and hassle you, it hasn't changed.

"Manchester United got caught up in that in the first draw, they didn't have any composure themselves. They're able to do that to teams Leeds, but they can't sort of snap out of that in front of goal and find that element of quality. I do think there's a chance they can get out of trouble."
