Diogo Monteiro will make his first appearance in a Leeds United shirt this evening as the Under-21s take on Newcastle United at Whitley Park. The defender joined the Whites from Swiss club Servette on transfer deadline day and has caught the eye in training by all accounts
Monteiro was named on the bench for the first-team on Sunday against Manchester United and he’ll be keen to impress tonight in the heart of defence alongside Jeremiah Mullen. Sam Greenwood is the most high profile name included in the Whites’ line-up with the midfielder getting a start after struggling for regular minutes in the first-team of late.
The midfielder is from Sunderland and he’ll be motivated to come up against the Magpies in a familiar part of the world for him. Darko Gyabi and Mateo Joseph drop back to the Under-21s line-up after their respective first-team involvements, while Morten Spencer will be keen to shine after penning new terms with the club in the last few days.
