Mateo Joseph scored four as Leeds United U21s started their season with a 5-2 win over Derby County at Pride Park.

Darryl Ombang: Didn’t have a save to make in the first-half and could do very little about the two he conceded at the start of the second. Got down to deny Ola Ibrahim well with 20 minutes remaining. 7
Kris Moore: Steady away down the right. Looked to create when he got forward and produced the assist for Joseph’s fourth with a smart header across the face of goal. 7
Keenan Carole: Looked the part venturing down the left wing. Defended well when he had to and produced a strong tackle or two, as well. 7

Jeremiah Mullen: Produced three or four well-timed slide tackles in the first half and proved a thorn in the side of Derby County all afternoon, thwarting their attempts to get forward with regularity. 8
James Debayo: Caught out for Derby’s second, but looked strong for much of the game. 7
Jack Jenkins: Busy in the mile of the park. Moved the ball well and worked hard without the ball, too. 7
Sonny Perkins: Busy on the right wing. He impressed with his footwork and managed to get himself the goal he deserved in the second. 8
Darko Gyabi: Oozed class in the middle of the park. Ran Derby ragged with his movement and first touch. 8
Dan James: Set up Joseph’s first with some superb skill. He was the quietest of Leeds’ front four, but got some valuable minutes in ahead of next week’s trip to Southampton. 7
Mateo Joseph: Scored a first-half hat-trick to put Leeds well and truly in the driving seat. He took all three well, particularly his first after some fine work from Dan James. Bagged a fourth in the second half, too. 9
Archie Gray: Moved the ball very well and showed real quality in possession. Derby tried to rough him up but he was still very influential. 8

Sean McGurk (Gray 62): Had a couple of impressive touches on the ball but the game was already won when he came on. 7
Charlie Allen (Gyabi 62): Made a couple of driving runs through Derby’s midfield and looked strong. 7
Cian Coleman (Jenkins 68): Kept the ball well and maintained Jenkins’ intensity. 7
Amari Miller (Perkins 79): Tried hard but didn’t have enough time to impact the game. N/A
