Here are your Leeds United transfer rumours on Wednesday, January 19.
Spence linked with Leeds move
Tottenham Hotspur have joined Leeds United and Arsenal in the race to sign Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence, according to Sky Sports.
Spence is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and is enjoying an excellent season at the City Ground.
He was particularly outstanding in their 1-0 FA Cup victory over the Gunners, which has seen his stock rise enormously in the last few weeks.
Middlesbrough could be open to allow Spence to leave the club if a suitable offer comes in and Leeds are one of their Premier League sides who are keen to sign him this month.
However, any deal for the 21-year-old would see him remain at the City Ground for the rest of the campaign as he has already played for two clubs this season.
Leeds make Aaronson offer
Leeds United have made a formal offer to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, according to reports.
It had been reported that the Austrian side were planning to keep the 21-year-old beyond the January transfer window, with the Champions League Round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich a major influence in their planning.
However, The Athletic have claimed that Leeds have tabled a bid believed to be in the region of £15m for the talented USA international, which has subsequently been rejected.
The report states Salzburg's valuation is higher than that but the Whites remain keen and hope to agree a deal between now and the end of the month.
Aaronson still has over three years left on his current contract which could make a move complicated and hard to come by, although Leeds are still persisting with their interest.
It's easy to see why the Whites want to sign Aaronson, though, given his record since he joined the club from Philadelphia Union back in January.
The former Bethlehem Steel playmaker has scored 10 goals and grabbed 12 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions and his form has attracted interest from sides across Europe.
Whelan makes Greenwood claim
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has backed Sam Greenwood for a loan move away from Leeds United amid reported transfer interest from Swansea City.
The 19-year-old made his first Leeds start in the FA Cup defeat at West Ham United last weekend, however, he was taken off at half-time after struggling for many opportunities.
But Whelan feels like he would benefit from regular senior football away from the club after impressing for the Under 23s this season.
Whelan told Football Insider: “There are a few young players there that probably need to do the same (as Drameh).
“I think Greenwood is in that same mould as well. He needs to learn a little bit more about himself.
“You can see that he did struggle a little bit with that step from under-23s to playing in the FA Cup against a Premier League side.
“Yeah, so I think he’s another player where that sort of invaluable experience will do him the world of good and will help the club as well.
“You’re developing the player into a man who can cope with the demands of the league.
“I would say we got our loan experience, back in our day, through the reserves. We were playing against men. When you look at it that way, I had to learn a lot about myself.
“I learned how to hold myself against bigger people and stronger people. More experienced players that have been around in the league for a long time but then found themselves in the reserves.”
