Here are the latest Leeds United transfer rumours on Thursday, 22 March 2022.
West Ham to return for Phillips
West Ham United will reportedly make a summer move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips. That is according to Football Insider, who claim that the Hammers are prepared to make a return for the player after failing with a £50 million bid in January.
Phillips has established himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the country in recent seasons and could line-up alongside England teammate Declan Rice if he makes the switch to East London. Leeds, though, are desperate to keep the 26-year-old and will be hoping to tie him to fresh terms in the not-so-distant future.
Johnson claim
Wales manager Rob Page has claimed that Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson turned down the chance to move to the Premier League in January. Leeds United and Brentford were both linked with a move for Johnson, with the latter having reportedly made two separate bids for him.

The 20-year-old has been in superb form for Forest during his first full year in the Championship, netting 11 goals and providing five assists. Speaking to the Independent, Wales boss Page thinks his decision to remain the Championship ‘speaks volumes’ about his character.
He said: “Brennan could potentially have had a move in January. But he decided to stay because he’s at a club where he was going to play and enjoy his football. That speaks volumes about him. He didn’t go chasing the money.”
Downes profile
Leeds United are eyeing a move for Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes this summer, according to reports. The Whites are likely to strengthen their midfield in the upcoming transfer window regardless of the division they are playing in and it appears Downes is a player they are targeting.
However, it is understood that Leeds are hoping to continue their cycle of signing young players and developing them after the Times claimed that the Whites are interested in a move for Downes. A number of other unnamed Premier League clubs are also supposedly tracking his progress.
Leeds have also been linked with Lewis O'Brien and John Swift as they look to bolster their midfield options at the end of the season. But Downes, who joined the Swans for £1m 2021, is firmly on the Whites' radar. Click here to read our profile on the talented youngster.
