Here's our Leeds United transfer rumour round-up on Wednesday, August 31.
Leeds target to seal transfer thanks to Wolves move
Leeds-linked striker Mergim Berisha is reportedly on the verge of completing a summer move, but not to Elland Road.
According to previous reports in Turkey , Jesse Marsch was keen on reuniting with Berisha having worked with the 24-year-old when in charge of Red Bull Salzburg. Berisha hit 22 goals under Marsch across the 2020/2021 season in Austria, sealing a move to Fenerbahce in the process.
A potential deal for the German appeared near when Leeds were, apparently, only £2.5million away from meeting the £4.25million price tag set by Fenerbahce.
However, Kicker states that VfB Stuttgart are now in pole position for Berisha’s signature as they look to replace Sasa Kalajdzic, who is set to seal a move to England with Wolves.
Former Leeds goalkeeper dismisses “sideways” Dan James move
Ex-Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Dan James would not be interested in a move to Everton.
Fabrizio Romano reported ahead of the Whites’ clash against Frank Lampard’s side that the Toffees had enquired about the Welshman's availability. Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be keen on a move for the 25-year-old speedster.
Nevertheless, Robinson claimed that there would be little point in James swapping Elland Road for Goodison Park, but admitted the situation would differ if a move to North London and the possibility of Champions League Football emerged.
He told MOT Leeds News : “I can’t see him being interested in a move to Everton, that would only be a sideways move at the moment with where the clubs are at right now.
“And from James’ point of view, I don’t see how that would be advancing his career at all. If Tottenham come knocking, that’s different as they’re offering Champions League football and they’re going places at the moment. It could be difficult to fend off a bid from Tottenham.”
Leeds opt against signing promising midfielder
According to Gianluca di Marzio , Leeds United decided against bringing talented midfielder Saliou Thioune to Elland Road.
The 18-year-old has instead now signed for Yverdon Sport FC in Switzerland, despite interest from the Premier League.
Di Marzio states that Leeds have held “significant interest” in the former Cittadella attacker for an extended period of time but, ultimately, went again making a move for Thioune believing he is too young to make the step into English football.
Thioune’s move to Switzerland sees him join fellow countryman and reported Leeds target Wilfried Gnonto in the Swiss Super League.
