NBA star Larry Nance Jr has given assurances to Leeds United supporters that 49ers Enterprises will do everything in their power to give them what they deserve. News broke on Friday evening of a deal being agreed between 49ers Enterprises and Andrea Radrizzani for the full purchase of the Whites.
There are still details to iron out at this point but the takeover is expected to be completed sooner rather than later, bringing an end to Radrizzani’s six-year stint as chairman. Nance is an investor in 49ers Enterprises and he confirmed his involvement in the deal to buy Leeds earlier this week with numerous tweets to supporters.
The New Orleans Pelicans player, who has previously played for Cleveland Cavaliers and LA Lakers and counts LeBron James as a former teammate, has been tweeting since Friday’s news broke, too, underling his delight to have a stake at Elland Road. Nance has also stressed the group’s desire to please the club’s supporters as they prepare for the new Championship season.
“Thrilled and honored to be part of the ownership group that has taken over @LUFC,” he wrote on Twitter, alongside a picture of himself at Elland Road.
“This club and its supporters deserve the world and we’ll do everything we can to give them just that. Marching on together!”
The athlete is thought to be one of several smaller investors within 49ers Enterprises and it seems he isn't the only basketball player involved. Nance retweeted a report from respected NBA correspondent Marc Stein suggesting Indiana Pacers point guard T.J. McConnell was also involved.
The 31-year-old has since confirmed his involvement on Instagram, writing: “Both humbled and honored to be a part of the new ownership group of Leeds United #MOT”
McConnell has been in the NBA since being signed by Philadelphia 76ers, in his home state of Pennsylvania, back in 2015. He has since gone on to play over 550 games in the league.
