Leeds United’s Illan Meslier has been named the fifth most ‘impactful’ goalkeeper in Europe under the age of 25. That is according to CIES Football Observatory, who calculate an impact score ‘taking into consideration the average match level in which players participated according to the experience capital method, official game minutes played over the last 365 days, as well as pitch performance compared to both teammates, opponents and same profile’s players.’
Meslier has been calculated a score of 84.5, which puts him behind only Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal, Gregor Kobel of Borrusia Dortmund, Diogo Costa of FC Porto, and Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG. Ramsdale currently leads the way with a score of 90.6 thanks to an excellent 12 months at the Emirates following his move from Sheffield United.
The 22-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s busiest keepers in the last two seasons with Meslier having been called into action on a regular basis. No one has made more saves than Meslier in that time frame, with the France U21 shot stopper having made 280 according to statistics taken from WhoScored.
