Leeds United stand firm as Newcastle United see second Jack Harrison bid 'rejected'

Leeds United have rejected a second bid from Newcastle United for winger Jack Harrison. That’s according to The Athletic, who claim the offer from Eddie Howe’s side was worth more than £20million.

Newcastle made their first move during pre-season, with the club identifying Harrison as someone who could offer plenty at St James’ Park. However, Leeds have no intention of letting the 25-year-old leave this summer and have knocked back a second bid from Newcastle.

The former England under-21 international still has two years to run on the three-year deal he signed at Elland Road last season and he is considered to be a vital part of Jesse Marsch’s plans moving forward. Harrison has started the Premier League in superb form for the Whites, recording three assists and creating plenty of chances to help Leeds up to third in the league ladder.

He also registered his first goal of the season on Sunday, scoring in the second half of Leeds’ dominant 3-0 win over Chelsea in West Yorkshire. Leeds have let Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha move on this summer, to Man City and Barcelona respectively, but they have absolutely no intention of allowing Harrison to follow them out of the door.

“Absolutely not. There is no way. Jack stays here,” club owner Andrea Radrizzani said in an interview with The Athletic when asked whether there was a chance Harrison could leave.

Those words came after a Harrison interview on the club’s pre-season tour of Australia appeared to cast doubt on his Leeds future. Asked whether he would be staying at Elland Road, he said: ‘we’ll see’, which certainly seemed to spark some panic amongst supporters.

However, in a recent interview with Mail Online, Harrison addressed that interview and underlined his commitment to the Leeds cause.

“I knew nothing about it and it threw me off,” he said. “My answer gave the wrong impression from what I meant. Social media was talking about it and people were like, ‘What have you said?’

“But it was nothing. My intention is to be here and work hard for this team. If anything I want to make a greater impact than before and I think this is the best place to do that.”

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will return with a third bid for Harrison, but they have also been linked with a move for Christian Pulisic of Chelsea and Watford’s Joao Pedro.
