Leeds United's stance on Daniel James revealed as Tottenham transfer now rated 'touch and go'

Leeds United will reject any late bids for winger Daniel James this summer.

That's according to our colleagues at the Daily Mirror, who claim United are adamant they do not want to sell the Wales international, amid apparent interest from Tottenham.

They claim Leeds boss Jesse Marsch sees the 24-year-old as a potentially key part of his plans at Elland Road, with the club also reluctant to sell a player they paid Manchester United £25m for just last summer.

The Leeds boss said after James scored and made an assist in last month’s friendly win over Brisbane Roar: “We were forced to play Dan at striker a lot last year and we know that’s not his best position. He likes to play more on the left. I’ve been challenging him to play a little bit more on the right, so he can set himself up on his right foot and make some final plays.”

Reports have previously suggested that Spurs are keen on a potential loan with a view to a £20m permanent deal next summer.

However, while WalesOnline understands James is indeed a player with admirers at Spurs, sources have cast doubt on the chances of a move to the white half of north London.

Suggestions of an enquiry from Everton have also previously been played down, but there's clearly still time for all of that to change as we approach Thursday's deadline.

That said. There's a growing feeling that a stay at Elland Road is now the most likely outcome.

Speaking about the latest situation in a transfer round-up for Sky Sports, reporter Kaveh Solhekol said: “Dan James is in demand.

“Spurs have been interested this summer, but we’ve been told it’s touch and go whether there will be a deal, unlikely at the moment.”
