Leeds United's Jesse Marsch provides Patrick Bamford update following injury concern

Jesse Marsch has moved to allay any long-term injury fears following Patrick Bamford’s absence on Saturday. The Whites came from 3-1 down at Elland Road to win 4-3 against Bournemouth and pick up their second straight Premier League win in the most thrilling fashion.

However, Bamford wasn’t involved at all against the Cherries after picking up a slight hip issue on Friday. Bamford has struggled with injuries over the last couple of seasons and consequently he hasn’t been able to build up consistency or any kind of form in front of goal of late.

The latest issue is a blow for the striker and he isn’t expected to feature in the Carabao Cup clash with Wolves on Wednesday night. However, Marsch is hopeful that Bamford could return to play a role in the club’s final game before the World Cup break, against Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday.

“Yeah, he took a penalty literally in the last action of training yesterday and then felt something in his hip,” Marsch explained after watching his side see off Bournemouth and move up to 12th in the Premier League table. “So they think it's like a seven-day injury.

“We'll see how it pans out for the week and if we can get them ready for Tottenham.”

Whether he plays in north London or not, Bamford will certainly be looking to make the most of the seven-week lay-off in the Premier League season. Leeds’ first Premier League game back comes on December 28 against Manchester City and the England international will be keen to hit the ground running and make a mark as Leeds enter the new year.
