Leeds United's hopes in relegation battle with Everton and Burnley boosted by Brighton blow

Brighton & Hove Albion have received an early injury blow ahead of their trip to Leeds United in 10 days as Enock Mwepu is set to miss the rest of the season. Mwepu limped off shortly after the hour mark in the Seagulls’ 3-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last week – which will keep him out of their final four matches.

Mwepu’s return to the starting XI last month – following almost three months out with a hamstring injury – directly coincided with Brighton’s return to form. Graham Potter’s side had won just one of their last 11 matches prior to his comeback at Arsenal – a run which also included six consecutive defeats and just one goal in seven matches.

But the 24-year-old both scored and assisted on his first start since January in the 2-1 win at the Emirates, which helped to spark a run of 10 points from a possible 15 available. Speaking ahead of their game with Manchester United this weekend, manager Potter confirmed that he, alongside Jeremy Sarmiento and Jakub Moder look set to miss the rest of the season.

Via quotes from Sussex Live, he said: "Enock [Mwepu] will miss [Manchester] United, a slight injury in his groin which probably means that will be him for the rest of the season. Jeremy [Sarmiento] is still out, Jakub [Moder] obviously long-term, but everyone else is okay.”

Leeds’ clash with Brighton a week on Sunday is likely to be a pivotal game in the Whites’ battle to beat the drop and so the absence of Mwepu could be a timely boost to their chances of earning three points.
