Leeds United's FA Youth Cup tie rearranged following York City decision

Leeds United’s FA Youth Cup third round tie with Accrington Stanley has been postponed. The Whites were due to host Accrington on Wednesday evening at the LNER Community Stadium in York, with AFC Wimbledon awaiting the winner in the next round of the competition.

However, Tuesday night’s National League clash between York City and Solihull Moors has been called off due to a frozen pitch and the decision has been made to call off Leeds’ Youth Cup game at the same time, with conditions unlikely to improve. As such, the game will now be played on Tuesday December 20, with kick-off at the same venue set for 7pm.

The Whites will be considered the favourites to progress and set up a trip to South London next month, but they won’t be taking Accrington lightly, particularly after falling short in the fourth round against Cambridge United last season. Scott Gardner’s side enter the competition at the third round stage, while Accrington have had to overcome Hartlepool United and Bolton Wanderers to reach this stage.

United currently sit seventh in the U18 Premier League, having picked up 13 points from their opening nine games of the campaign, with a 5-3 win over table toppers Sunderland the high point of the season so far.

Leeds have won the FA Youth Cup on two occasions previously, with success coming in 1992-93 and 1996-97, with the likes of Paul Robinson, Harry Kewell, Jonathan Woodgate and Alan Smith being involved on the last occasion.
