Leeds United's dressing room song, Milner's chant, Roca plays peacemaker and moments missed

Crossing the divide

Head coaches are not often seen on matchday before the teams come out for kick-off. They are rarely seen on the pitch during the warm-ups, but both Jurgen Klopp and Jesse Marsch were on the field in the build-up.

The Liverpool boss is regularly seen watching the warm-ups, specifically the opposition’s, but this time Rene Maric approached him for a handshake. The pair have never worked directly together, but Maric’s work in Germany will be well known to Klopp.

On the other side of the pitch, Ibrahima Konate was making the effort to find Marsch. They were ships passing in the night at RB Leipzig during the summer of 2021, but must have had some time together based on the warmth of their embrace and conversation.

Forshaw’s late arrival

Adam Forshaw may have just missed the first goal it was that early. While the Leeds United contingent in the director’s box were just about gathering themselves after their early celebrations, the injured midfielder was only just arriving for his front-row seat.

One of the few flashpoints in the first half came towards the end of the period when Brenden Aaronson, showing immense close control, was eventually forced to the floor by Andrew Robertson. The left-back had a little nibble with his boot as Aaronson toppled over and that did not impress anyone in white.

Aaronson’s confidant and compatriot Tyler Adams did not need a second invitation to steam in and defend his team-mate. Aaronson, seething himself, chose to walk away and it required a few calming words from Marc Roca to simmer the midfielder down.

Milner’s chant

James Milner would finally make his appearance in the 79th minute with Liverpool needing an injection of energy to win the game. The Leeds faithful would of course let him know they were thinking of him.

“You’re Leeds, and you know you are,” came the chant.

The dressing room anthem

The outer limits of the media area at Anfield stretch close enough to the dressing rooms to hear exactly what was being played after the full-time whistle. One of the songs of choice in the Leeds dressing room was Whigfield’s ‘Saturday Night’ appropriately enough.
