Leeds United's corresponding fixtures show year-on-year improvement for Jesse Marsch's side

Leeds United have registered five more points this season than they did in the corresponding fixtures last term.

The Whites suffered heavy defeats against Liverpool at Anfield, and at the hands of Chelsea at Elland Road during the 2021/22 season.

However, Jesse Marsch's charges have avenged those defeats by prevailing against both sides this season. Nonetheless, Leeds sit 15th in the Premier League, just as they did at this stage last season.

Although Leeds have registered a point more this time around, they were three points further away from the relegation zone after 16 games under Marcelo Bielsa in 2021/22.

Here is how Leeds have fared in their games so far this season compared to last year:

Leeds 2-1 Wolves

Rodrigo's 94th minute equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw when Wolves travelled to Elland Road last season in October 2021.

But in the opening game of the 2022/23 season, the Whites came from behind courtesy of another strike from Rodrigo, and an own goal from Rayan Ait-Nouri to win 2-1.

Southampton clinched all three points when Leeds travelled to St Mary's last term, as Armando Broja scored the only goal of the afternoon.

This season, Leeds stormed into a 2-0 lead at the break courtesy of a brace from Rodrigo, but succumbed to a remarkable second-half fightback from the Saints.

A handful of inspired changes by Ralph Hasenhuttl transformed Southampton and late goals from Joe Aribo and Kyle Walker-Peters rescued a 2-2 draw for the hosts.

Leeds 3-0 Chelsea

Chelsea's visit to Elland Road was a resounding success last season, with Thomas Tuchel's side cruising to a 3-0 victory in Leeds' penultimate home game.

It's safe to say that their trip to Leeds was much less successful this term. Goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison sealed a memorable 3-0 victory for the Whites as they registered their first win over Chelsea in just under 20 years.

But perhaps many will want to the Whites' latest visit to the Gtech Community Stadium. Ivan Toney's hat-trick inspired Brentford to a 5-2 victory and condemned Leeds to a second defeat in three games.
