Leeds United's Brenden Aaronson leaves USMNT legend impressed following summer move to Elland Road

USMNT legend Eric Wynalda admits he has been surprised by how well Brenden Aaronson has settled into the Premier League with Leeds United.

Aaronson made the switch to Elland Road this summer to join former boss Jesse Marsch from Red Bull Salzburg, which saw Leeds pay around £25m for the US international.

However, while he had played Champions League football at Salzburg, there was no guarantee Aaronson would be a success at Leeds. The Whites paid a hefty price for a player with bags of potential.

But so far, the 21-year-old has impressed following his summer move. Aaronson has started all of Leeds' Premier League fixtures this season and even bagged his first goal for the Whites in their rampant 3-0 win over Chelsea back in August.

And while 100 cap international Wynalda believed Tyler Adams, another US international, would fit in seamlessly at Elland Road, he admits he has been surprised by how well Aaronson has performed for Leeds so far this term.

"I am surprised by Aaronson," Wynalda told VegasInsider. "I really am. That’s a big jump coming from Salzburg. That’s a big price tag $30 million as well. I wouldn’t have anticipated that kind of a price tag for him just yet. He’s now valued around 33 million so value has gone up since his arrival.

"Adams was always going to fit in that system. He was always going to understand the messaging from his manager that we’re going to press. Go back to that Chelsea game. That three nil win victory. Mendy with the spilled error and the no look goal.

"By the way, go back and watch the video. An American kid did a no look. He looked the other way and put it in. A little cocky but we’ll let him have it. When you win a game like that? Three nil? Go celebrate.

"So I'm not surprised with Tyler Adams and I’m very surprised with Aaronson but if you watch him he’s just a dog chasing a bone. He just doesn't stop either and he’s just hanging on to hope that something good will happen and thus far he’s had some good moments and I hope it continues."
