Leeds United have made no secret of their desire to redevelop and expand Elland Road in the not too distant future. The Whites are into their third successive season in the Premier League now and as they look to further establish themselves, their home ground is increasingly becoming a topic of discussion.
The dated-looking West Stand is the area of the ground the club are prioritising, but the hope is that Leeds could increase Elland Road’s capacity from just over 37,000 to 55,000. Never has the need for more seats been clearer, either. United’s season ticket waiting list is around 22,000 names long and that’s unlikely to shrink any time soon while the Whites are competing in the Premier League.
Plans are still very much in the embryonic stage, of course, but it’s clear the club see the redevelopment of the stadium as a necessary step forward as they look to increase revenue and secure Leeds’ long-term future financially. It’s a move that makes sense from an optics point of view, too, sending a clear message that Leeds are a club that is well and truly thriving.
