More than 121 kilometres run across the team underlined Leeds United’s commitment to fight for Jesse Marsch after a winless stint which had tested everyone’s resolve. No team has collectively run further in a Premier League match this season and that’s the statistic which sums up the grit needed to deliver a result like Saturday’s.
Marsch has repeatedly talked up the unity between the board, coaching staff and players, but the longer they went without a win the harder it became to appreciate his message. The head coach would stress the pain everyone has been under during this barren run, especially with the impact of external sources in the modern game.
Tyler Adams was seen making a high-speed beeline for Marsch on the sounding of the final whistle. The Americans go back a long way together and it was clear how much it meant to Adams in sharing that moment with his under-fire head coach.

Asked if the players showed they were for fighting for him, Marsch said: “They were, but they were fighting for us. They believe in what we're doing. It's been painful for all of us. Obviously, they take heat from different people and different sources. The manager takes heat.
“It's impossible to work in football in this day and age in isolation. We have social media, we have media, we have fans, we have everything. They walk around town, they hear from everybody they're behind them, but they need some urgency in our season. Nobody wants to go down.
“So what's on my mind is continuing to stay stable and strong so they give themselves the best chance to perform.”
