Leeds United player ratings as Gelhardt and Struijk pump life into relegation scrap

Leeds United (4-2-3-1)

1 Illan Meslier

Not a huge amount to be done with Danny Welbeck's chipped finish, but distribution was poor from the goalkeeper, especially in the first half. Steadier after the break. 5

5 Robin Koch

Really found his groove at right-back. Proved an asset for the clipped passes beyond halfway for his knock-downs. Did not take risks when they were unnecessary. Solid. 7

14 Diego Llorente

Badly exposed by Welbeck with a simple twist and turn for the goal. Nothing too calamitous thereafter. 5

6 Liam Cooper (c)

Solid from the captain. Would not have liked seeing the slide-rule passes of the opening 20 minutes cutting through so easily, but steadied the ship. 6

3 Junior Firpo

Steadier than we have seen of late. Got up and down the field well. Not perfect and one particularly late foul on Yves Bissouma left you wincing, but battled well. 6

23 Kalvin Phillips

Much more like it from the England international. Blocks and tackles came more frequently in front of his own defence and the passes had more penetration too. Picked out one or two down the channels nicely. Tired towards the latter stages when the intensity and accuracy dropped off. 6

43 Mateusz Klich

Didn't quite open up Brighton as he would have liked. Rolled back the years with a brilliant effort from range which required a superb Robert Sanchez stop. 5

10 Raphinha

If anyone was going to do it, it would have been the Brazilian in what was possibly his final Elland Road appearance. Forced more than one decent save out of the Brighton stopper. 7

19 Rodrigo

Gathered himself after the break with one delightful, arced pass in behind, but the standard was set low in an abject first period which would have warranted a half-time bath. 4

22 Jack Harrison

Some excellent passes into the channels and some great chances he scuffed at with too much time to think about the shot. Work rate did lead to some promising positions for him, but team-mates could not find him. 6

30 Joe Gelhardt

Never stopped battling or running. Openings just never fell for him after his best effort smashed into Cooper's face on an open goal line in the opening minutes until late on with his genius creating the equaliser. 7
