Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Saturday, January 14.
Wilfried Gnonto tipped to make Leeds United 'a fortune' after Aston Villa display
BBC Radio Scotland pundit Tam McManus has said that Leeds United could make 'a fortune' off Wilfried Gnonto after the 19-year-old's performance against Aston Villa on Friday night.
The Italian international proved tricky for Unai Emery's side to stop as he consistently beat experienced right-back Ashley Young down the touchline, and caused chaos in the Villa penalty area more than once.
After arriving in the summer transfer window, Gnonto has been one of manager Jesse Marsch's standout youngsters alongside his 'partner-in-crime' Crysencio Summerville.
Taking to social media, McManus, who formerly played for Hibernian, was full of praise for Gnonto and highlighted that big teams will be coming after him sooner rather than later.
Tyler Adams urges Leeds United team-mates to ‘build’ on Aston Villa showing
Tyler Adams has told his Leeds United teammates to “keep their heads held high” after the defeat at Aston Villa. Jesse Marsch’s side were on top for several spells in the game but failed to capitalise in the final third.
Ultimately, when Patrick Bamford pulled one back on 83 minutes, it proved too little, too late as the Whites travelled home empty-handed. Adams - named United States player of the year ahead of the game - was still his usually-dependable self against Douglas Luiz and Boubacar Kamara in midfield.
The American admitted to feeling a sense of disappointment at the full-time whistle. He said post-match: “Yeah, I definitely agree with that (frustrated not to win). Frustration is probably the first word that comes to mind when describing the performance because, for large parts of the game, I would say we controlled them and it's never easy to come to a ground like this."
Patrick Bamford says recent surgery has ended Leeds United injury problems
Patrick Bamford has insisted he is raring to go after making a goalscoring return for Leeds United. Several long-term injury setbacks over the last year have coincided with the Whites’ struggles in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old barely featured in the second half of 2021-22 as Leeds maintained their top-flight status by the barest of margins. It was thought that this season would provide a clean slate for Bamford - but his time on the treatment table has increased.
Before last night, the forward had not featured since the 2-1 win at Liverpool on October 29. However, the World Cup break offered an opportunity for Bamford to get fully fit, with no desperation to rush back.
