Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, May 27.
Leeds youngster earns senior international recall
The latest Whites player to be called up for international action next month is Alfie McCalmont who has been included in the senior Northern Ireland squad. The 22-year-old has been called up by Ian Baraclough as part of the 28-man squad for their Nations League fixtures against Greece, Cyprus and Kosovo.
It isn’t the first McCalmont has been involved for the senior squad as he has been capped four times but since he earned those caps, he had been somewhat demoted to the U21 squad. His last senior appearance for Northern Ireland came in May 2021 but Baraclough has clearly been impressed by what the young midfielder has shown on loan at Morecambe this season.
Aaronson excited to reunite with Marsch
Despite Brenden Aaronson being a transfer target before Jesse Marsch arrived at the club, he has worked under the Leeds boss previously at Red Bull Salzburg. The 21-year-old admitted that he is looking forward to linking up with his compatriot again and claimed he fits the profile of what the supporters will be looking for.

Speaking to LUTV after his move was confirmed, he said: "Jesse is a fantastic coach. I worked with him for half a year at Red Bull Salzburg and he was amazing. I was grateful to work with him then and I am grateful to work with him again, so I am excited.
"I’ve heard about what the fans like about players here and I feel like I can be that type of player. I am a hard worker, I have this creative side to me and I think I fit this Leeds recipe in a player. The way Jesse wants to play, I learned a lot about the system and flourished under that system, so I am really excited to get back into it again."

Ramsdale shows support for Meslier after post-Arsenal criticism
Leeds’ 4-1 loss to Arsenal at Elland Road a week before Christmas was one of several heavy defeats against the Premier League’s so-called ‘Big Six’. Illan Meslier was criticised for not doing more to keep out Gabriel Martinelli’s opener but, had it not been for the French goalkeeper, the Gunners probably would have won even more comprehensively.
Speaking on David Seaman’s ‘Seaman Says’ Podcast, Arsenal number one Aaron Ramsdale admitted his frustrations at the criticism received by goalkeepers. He said: “When we played Leeds away Meslier has made five or six saves first half but they were 3-0 down.
“Nobody was mentioning his saves, they mentioned one of the goals which he might have done better for. If you get 10 shots at you, more times than not you’re going to let one in, but that’s what people always talk about. That’s for another day, but that winds me up.”
