Leeds United news as Whites told 'no reason' why Daniel Farke can't get them promoted

Here are the latest Leeds United headlines on Tuesday, July 4.

Agbonlahor hails Farke appointment

Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor insists Daniel Farke is 'the right appointment' for Leeds United as the club moved to finally appoint the successor to Sam Allardyce in the Elland Road dugout.

"I think it's the right appointment," Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. "He's going to do what it takes and I do think if he can get the right players he wants in, there's no reason why Leeds can't come straight back up.

"And I think they need to come straight back up because when they last got relegated it took a long time to come back to the Premier League. They can't afford to spend more than one or two seasons in the Championship, they could become stranded there.

"I think it's a good appointment and hopefully they can come back up."

Leeds United face Nat Phillips competition

Leeds United will reportedly face competition from Dutch champions Feyenoord in a race to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips. The Athletic claims the Eredivisie outfit have not yet made contact with Jurgen Klopp's side but view the 26-year-old as a target this summer.

Arne Slot's Eredivisie-winning side will play Champions League football next season and are viewed as an attractive proposition for the defender. Phillips has made just 29 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's first-team since making his debut in 2020.

The centre-half made just five appearances last season and could be moved on this summer. Liverpool have set a reported asking price of around £10million.

Feyenoord have not yet opened talks with Liverpool over a move for Phillips, according to the report. Last week, it was claimed Leeds were keen on signing the defender to bolster their options in the Championship next season.
