Leeds United news as Whites striker sends Arsenal star message ahead of clash

Here are the Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, October 14.

Leeds United striker sends Arsenal starboy message ahead of clash

Leeds United forward Sam Greenwood has sent Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka a message over social media ahead of their sides' clash at the weekend.

The Whites are on a run of five games without a win and will be desperate for all three points at Elland Road to keep themselves from sliding further down the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta's side, however, find themselves top of the table after winning eight of their nine matches so far this season with their only loss coming to Manchester United.

After the Gunners' match against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League last night, Greenwood took to social media to congratulate Saka on his 24th minute goal, which eventually turned out to be the match winner.

Saka posted a photo of him celebrating on his Instagram before captioning it: "They all count! Happy with the win, now full focus on Sunday!".

Greenwood replied with a 'fire' emoji alongside a 'clapping hands' emoji, signalling his respect and praise for the young Arsenal forward.

Jesse Marsch maps out Stuart Dallas' return to Leeds United action and gives Junior Firpo update

Junior Firpo is fit enough to be involved this weekend as Leeds United welcome Arsenal to Elland Road, Jesse Marsch has confirmed. Firpo wasn’t fit enough to make the journey to Crystal Palace last Sunday with the head coach revealing he had picked up a knock in the build-up to the game.

However, the left-back has trained this week and he will be fit enough to take on Mikel Arteta’s table toppers on Sunday afternoon. Firpo has struggled with injuries this season, making just one appearance off the bench, which came earlier this month in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.

He’ll be keen to start applying pressure on Pascal Struijk in the coming weeks, though, as he bids to reclaim his spot in the Whites’ starting XI. Marsch had encouraging news on Stuart Dallas, too, with the defendern continuing to make swift progress in his recovery from a fractured femur.

Leeds United's Wilfried Gnonto makes award final shortlist alongside Europe's brightest talents

Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto has made the final shortlist for the 2022 Golden Boy award. The forward is still waiting to make his first-team debut for the Whites, but he has been recognised as one of the brightest young players in world football.

Gnonto has been included on a 20-man list, made up of the best players under the age of 21 currently plying their trade at a European club. The 18-year-old is in prestigious company, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Pedri, Eduardo Camavinga and Jamal Musiala also included on the list.

Joe Gelhardt was initially shortlisted for the award, too, but he dropped out of the reckoning as the list of players has been whittled down. Gnonto only made the move to Elland Road last month, joining on a five-year deal on deadline day, and his game time has come exclusively with the Under-21s.
