Leeds United news as Whites stance on James revealed & Rodrigo delivers reasons behind good form

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Tuesday, 23 August 2022.

James stance

Leeds United reportedly have no interest in selling Daniel James this summer amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur. That is according to Football Insider, who claim Spurs have the Welshman as one of their options as they look to recruit another wide forward.

James only arrived at Elland Road on deadline day 12 months ago as Leeds paid Manchester United £25 million for his signature. He has featured in each of Leeds’ last two Premier League games, indicating he is still very much part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.

Rodrigo training focus

Rodrigo Moreno believes Leeds United’s excellent start to the season is down the work on the training pitch with Jesse Marsch. The Whites currently sit third in the Premier League table after picking up seven points from their opening three matches.

Given the intense nature of the relegation battle last season, Marsch was unable to really stamp his tactical authority on Leeds. This term, though, that is not the case, as the string of new signings and time on the training field during pre-season has allowed Leeds to hit the ground running.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rodrigo thinks those two factors are what has helped make Leeds look like a team transformed in their opening three games of the campaign.

He said: “I think since Jesse arrived it was an important moment for me. A lot of things have changed since he arrived. It’s true that we finished last season in small troubles but at the end we achieved what we want to stay in the Premier League.

“This pre-season we have time to work a bit more on the style that he wants to play. He brought in new players, players who have worked with him in previous clubs as well so I think this has been really helpful for all of us.”

Bridges & Bowyer 'brawl'

Michael Bridges has revealed he once had a 'brawl' with fellow Leeds United team-mate Lee Bowyer over Spaghetti Bolognese. The ex-Leeds striker was talking to The GegenPod Football Podcast, by Optus Sport, after discussing Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte's antics last weekend.

The two coaches came together after the game between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge last weekend, with a brawl breaking out on the pitch. When asked whether Bridges had been involved in anything like it, he said: "I had a quick one in Derby in a hotel with Lee Bowyer over Spaghetti Bolognese. Me and him were fighting over a bit of pasta can you believe?

"Lee Bowyer had a short fuse and his nickname was the firework. Thankfully it was enclosed, it was only for the players getting their buffet.”
