Leeds United news as Whites 'prepare second Brenden Aaronson bid'and Koch in Germany manager's plans

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, 19 January 2022.

Leeds prepare new bid

Leeds United are reportedly preparing a fresh bid for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that while Salzburg are reluctant to sell this month, Aaronson is interested in a move to the Premier League and playing under Marcelo Bielsa.

The Athletic reported yesterday evening that the Whites had seen an opening offer of £15 million rejected by the Austrian side.

However, it does not appear Leeds have been deterred in their approach for the USA international and remain intent on getting it over the line before the end of the window.

Koch’s German prospects

Germany manager Hansi Flick has contacted Leeds United defender Robin Koch in recent months as he looks to force his way back into the national team setup.

Koch has not featured in a Germany squad since the European Champions under previous manager Joachim Low due to a four-month injury lay-off.

The 25-year-old, though, has impressed since his return to action and according to German outlet Sport1, Flick has been in touch with the Leeds man regarding his ‘well-being’.

"He [Hansi Flick - German national team boss] has contacted him [Koch] more often by phone in recent months to inquire about the well-being of the Leeds professional.

"At the DFB [German national team], they appreciate Koch's variability and reliability on the pitch, but also his personality."

Jackson on Under-18s

Leeds United Under-23s manager Mark Jackson was full of praise for the young centre-back partnership of Jeremiah Mullen and Joe Littlewood after the 2-0 win over Derby County.

Mullen and Littlewood, as well as several other under-18s, have faced a baptism of fire in the higher age group this season due to the involvement of several youngsters in the first team.

And after a difficult run of form in Premier League Two, Leeds finally picked up their first victory in 11 matches, to which Jackson was very pleased with.

He said: "Credit to them both [Mullen and Littlewood], last two games I think they've been a really strong pairing, both U18s players, both shown in the last two games they can compete at this level.

"Credit to them for that, they've got their head round it and are taking a chance when the opportunity comes, another strong performance today and a clean sheet as well, which the team can be proud of.”
