Leeds United news as Whites midfielder set for World Cup captaincy role

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, 20 November 2022.

Adams captaincy

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is set to be named as captain of USA ahead of their World Cup opener on Monday, according to Fox Sports. The US are set to face Wales in their first Group B match with the role of captaincy the final thing to decide before they get their campaign underway.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter handed his players the opportunity to vote on who they believe should receive the armband, and the Leeds star is expected to be the chose one. This would cap a fine start to the season for Adams, who has impressed since his summer move to Elland Road from RB Leipzig.

Marsch comparison

Jesse Marsch has spoken up on the similarities that his Leeds United side shares with the USA national team as the Stars and Stripes get set to take on England and Wales in Group B in Qatar over the ten days.

The draw, which was made last April, pitted USA and Wales together at a World Cup for the first time, whilst it will be the third rodeo between Gregg Berhalter's men and the Three Lions after meetings in 1950 and 2010. With all three eager to qualify for the knockout rounds, it will be no easy feat finishing in the top two - though Marsch believes anything is possible for his home nation.

The Wisconsin-born Whites' boss made just two appearances for his country, though he was a coach in the national setup for the 2010 World Cup, which saw Clint Dempsey cancel out Steven Gerrard's opener thanks to THAT Robert Green howler. And, in an interview with The Athletic, Marsch has made comparisons between his Leeds outfit and the USA team - detailing how the side may set up in the tournament if they are to take a result.

Marsch said: "Against Wales, the U.S. is going to see a team that sits in a low block and looks to hit them in transition with players like Daniel James and Gareth Bale. It will likely be similar against Iran. I always say the reason teams play with a low block is that it’s hard to break down. People like to criticise you when you can’t break those teams down, but when they have a low block, that’s the strategy, right?"

Harrison future

Jack Harrison's Leeds United career looks to be as unclear as ever with the winger's poor form seemingly deterring any club from making a bid for his services.

Harrison has made his name at Elland Road in recent years after a temporary move from Manchester City was made permanent last summer following three years on loan in west Yorkshire. Scoring eight goals in both of his Premier League seasons, Harrison may struggle again given his poor return of just one goal in 13 games so far this term.

Previous interest has been shown by fellow top-flight sides such as Newcastle and Everton, with his form from last season owing to expected suitors from across the board. But with Harrison - who turns 26 today - having just 18 months left on his contract, his future remains unclear. What does the future hold in store for the Englishman? Leeds Live takes you through what has been said recently on his future at Elland Road.
