Leeds United news as Whites face O'Brien competition and Lang reveals transfer talks

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Wednesday, 1 June 2022.

O'Brien competition

Leeds United target Lewis O'Brien is said to be a wanted man this summer, with plenty of Premier League clubs keen on signing the Huddersfield Town midfielder. The 23-year-old played a pivotal part in the Terriers side that made it to Wembley for the Championship play-off final against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

However, Huddersfield lost out on the day 1-0, which means they will be playing Championship football again next season. BBC Sport reports a number of top flight sides are keen on signing O'Brien, who was on Leeds United's radar last summer. The Whites tried to sign the midfielder last year, but were unable to come to an agreement for his services.

Lang admission

Exciting Dutch attacker Noa Lang has admitted that Leeds United have had concrete interest in him and even flew to Holland to discuss a potential transfer with him last summer before he ultimately joined Club Brugge. The 22-year-old winger is now looking to leave the Belgian side, looking for a new challenge with links to the Premier League re-emerging.

Arsenal and West Ham have previously been interested, but it was Leeds United who caught his attention when they tried to make a move for him last summer. This Wednesday’s edition of Het Laatste Nieuws in the Netherlands, they have published an interview with Lang, where he revealed the efforts made by the Premier League side to secure his services last summer.

He said: "They were concrete, yes. Leeds made three offers. We even negotiated – they flew to the Netherlands."

Cresswell talks

Charlie Cresswell was a name on Liverpool and Manchester United's radar just six months ago, with Leeds United hoping to tie him down to avoid losing their talented teenage centre-back. But under Jesse Marsch, Cresswell found playing time difficult to come by.

This past month, Cresswell’s agent had openly stated that he wants his client to start playing more football 'soon' amid a lack of first-team opportunities at Elland Road. Despite impressing for the U23s this season, the centre-back has seen limited game time despite Leeds’ defensive woes last season - conceding the second most goals in the Premier League.

Speaking to the Press Association whilst away on England U21 duty, Cresswell revealed his plans: “That’s for me to discuss with Jesse and Victor [Orta, director of football] over the next few weeks and see where that takes me. But, ultimately, I would like to play more football, whether that be a loan or that be at Leeds. We’ll see.”
