Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Sunday, 30 January 2022.
West Ham 'make Phillips bid'
West Ham United are reportedly set to make a bid of £50 million for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
That is according to the Sun, who claim the Hammers are looking to sign him before tomorrow’s deadline but are also willing to wait until the summer.
Phillips is currently continuing his recovery from hamstring surgery and has not played for Leeds since the 2-2 draw with Brentford in early December.
West Ham’s bid for Phillips comes just days after reports emerged they had also seen an offer rejected for Whites winger Raphinha.
Ramsay speculation
Aberdeen defender Ross McCrorie does not think that speculation surrounding the future of Calvin Ramsay has affected him.
Ramsay has been linked with moves to both Leeds United and Bologna before tomorrow’s deadline after his impressive performances for the Dons.
Despite that, though, McCrorie thinks that the 18-year-old is coping well with the outside noise and is adamant his teammates’ sole focus is on their next game.
“For Calvin, and any top player, there is going to be speculation,” he told the Press and Journal. “A player like Calvin takes it in his stride.
“He has been brilliant for us this season and long may it continue – he is a top quality player. It (speculation) doesn’t affect Calvin – it is part and parcel of football.
“Calvin’s whole focus will be on St Johnstone and as a player that kind of stuff doesn’t really affect him. His focus is on the next game and Aberdeen just now.”
Evans on Cellino
Former Leeds United manager Steve Evans has praised the work Massimo Cellino did at the club during his time as owner.
Cellino was often embroiled in controversy while at the helm at Elland Road before eventually selling the club to current owner Andrea Radrizzani.
Despite that, though, Evans thinks that Cellino should be remembered fondly for the way he passed the ownership key onto someone who has been able to take the club to the next level.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live's EFL podcast : "A lot of people want to knock Massimo Cellino's time at Leeds, but he gave me the opportunity to manage one of the top-six clubs in British football. I had a good relationship with him.
"If you speak to Garry Monk, I think he'll also say if you went to say Massimo [Cellino], which I did most days and you see him, he was a shrewd businessman who knew his football, he knew players.
"If I mentioned [Joe] Jacobson at Wycombe, he would know you and Tom [King] at Millwall and Newport.
"Look what has happened at Elland Road now and even in the dark days of Massimo when he was having fights with the broadcasters about rights and the money, I think I was in the middle of that at times.
"But he has eventually found someone who has taken the club to a new level. I have watched Marcelo [Bielsa] work many times since he's gone there, what a brilliant coach and what a brilliant honour."
