Leeds United issue 'optimistic' injury update on Max Wober and Wilfried Gnonto

Leeds United are hopeful that Max Wober and Wilfried Gnonto have avoided lengthy absences after assessing the injuries the pair sustained on international duty.

Gnonto and Wober are doubts for Saturday's game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. But according to The Athletic, Leeds are 'optimistic' that both will be able to feature for the majority of the Premier League run-in.

Wober was forced to withdraw early from international duty after pulling his hamstring during Austria's 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in a European qualifier.

Gnonto limped off with an ankle injury inside just 22 minutes in Italy's 2-0 win over Malta on Sunday. Both players have undergone medical checks since returning to Leeds, and the results have reassured the club that neither face a lengthy absence.

Wober has proven to be a shrewd buy since his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg in January. The defender has formed a strong partnership with Robin Koch, and has seamlessly adjusted to the Premier League.

Gnonto has also enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season since joining from FC Zurich on transfer deadline day in September. The 19-year-old has scored four goals across all competitions, and is poised for a very bright future in the game.

Leeds United's pre-season attacking expectations could be about to become reality under Javi Gracia

The expectation surrounding Luis Sinisterra was always going to be high. The Colombia international was seen as the man chosen to replace the outgoing Raphinha last summer and his performances at the start of the season were enough to get Leeds United fans very excited about what was to come.

Sinisterra bagged three goals in all competitions inside the first month of the season, with efforts coming against Barnsley, Everton and Brentford and he terrorised Arsenal in a fine display against the Gunners at Elland Road in October. However, the 23-year-old has been unable to showcase his talents to the Elland Road crowd on a consistent basis with injuries well and truly blighting his first season in the Premier League.

Two hamstring complaints and a Lisfranc issue have restricted him to just eight league starts for the Whites so far and just one of those has come since October. As such, it’s been a season of real frustration for both the winger and those fans who had him earmarked as the man to help push the Whites up the table as the season progressed.

Everything Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has ever said about Leeds United ahead of weekend clash

Leeds United are winless in their last 13 matches against Arsenal, and have taken just a single point off of them since their last win over the Gunners in 2003.

And with Mikel Arteta's side locked into a battle for the Premier League title this season while Javi Gracia's men are fighting for their top-flight survival, this weekend's clash should prove to be another epic contest.

While the Spaniard is often respectful of other sides, it would seem as though the Whites are one of Arteta's favourite teams in the Premier League simply by how much he's praised them over the years.
