Leeds United news as Robbie Keane responds to Luke Ayling's failed copycat celebration

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Saturday, 19 March.

Keane responds to Ayling

Former Wolves and Leeds United striker Robbie Keane has responded to Luke Ayling after his celebration at Molineux on Friday night. Ayling attempted Keane’s iconic cartwheel and forward role after netting a stoppage time winner for the Whites in their unbelievable 3-2 victory.

Ayling completed Leeds’ comeback from 2-0 down as he powered home a half-volley through the body of Jose Sa after Jack Harrison and Rodrigo Moreno had got them back in the game. Keane issued a humorous response via his Instagram story.

He said: “@luke_ayling2 I’m free on Thursday. Brilliant mate loved it.”

Talking points

Leeds United’s incredible 3-2 comeback victory over Wolves on Friday night was certainly not short of talking points. The Whites were forced to make four substitutions inside 55 minutes due to injuries to Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente, Mateusz Klich (concussion) and Illan Meslier but rallied to earn a second consecutive win.

Leeds appeared to be down and out at half time but Raul Jimenez’s red card inside the first 10 minutes of the second period helped swing the game in their favour. On a quite unbelievable night for Jesse Marsch’s side, LeedsLive writer Beren Cross has dissected five talking points from the match, which you can find here.

Neville on Phillips

Gary Neville has admitted that Leeds United must make sure Kalvin Phillips is fully 'ready' to return after he was named on the bench for the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The 26-year-old has been out for over three months after suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw with Brentford back in December.

However, Phillips was back in the Leeds squad and was on the bench for the game at Molineux, although Whites boss Jesse Marsch admitted after the game he was never going to play any minutes, Neville believes his eventual return will breath ‘huge confidence’ into the side.

He told Sky Sports: "It’ll help them enormously. The record without him in the team is woeful. Leeds are in a real difficult predicament as a team, they’ll have to work hard.

"Is he going to come back and hit the ground running and be in great form? There’s a lot of expectation on him, a lot riding on him, but he will bring them huge confidence I’m sure. Leeds need to make sure he’s ready when he comes back."
