Leeds United news as Luis Sinisterra warned 'it may be a while' after 'stupid' red card

A look at the latest Leeds United headlines on Friday, 7 October.

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has warned Luis Sinisterra

Paddy Kenny believes it may be a while until supporters see new arrival Luis Sinisterra after a 'stupid' sending off against Aston Villa. The Colombian now serve a one-game ban and miss Leeds’ visit to Crystal Palace this weekend, but the former Whites goalkeeper believes the club 'should punish him.'

“It’s just stupid, isn’t it?” Kenny told Football Insider. “You are really letting your side down there. I don’t get why players do that even when they aren’t on a booking, it doesn’t make any sense.

“This was a game Leeds should be winning but they have been let down by one player and it has cost them. Stupid is the only word I can think of for a sending-off like that. He will be banned, obviously, but maybe the club should punish him as well.

“I’m sure the manager will have let him know what he thought about the situation. I was in the dressing room when Neil Warnock was going off on players, it’s not nice. It might be a while before we see that player again.”

Sinisterra's replacement, Bamford fitness, Gelhardt's proven point and Marsch's Leeds United agenda

Jesse Marsch will field questions from the media this afternoon as the build-up begins to Leeds United’s clash with Crystal Palace. The Whites travel down to south London on Sunday and Marsch will be speaking with television, radio, print and online journalists at Thorp Arch to preview the clash.

Here is a run-down of some of the main topics on the agenda for the American to address at the training ground today.

Rasmus Kristensen opens up on 'intense' Leeds United right-back competition vs Ayling and Drameh

Rasmus Kristensen has labelled the battle for Leeds United’s right back spot as ‘intense’. Kristensen has began the season as first choice in that position but is not short of competition breathing down his neck.

Jesse Marsch also has two very different options at his disposal in the form of Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh. The two are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their careers, but are both certainly more than capable of battling Kristensen for that first choice role.

Ayling has made over 200 appearances for the Whites but spent all of pre-season, and the opening month of the campaign injured. Drameh, meanwhile, spent the second half of last term on loan at Cardiff City and was hoping to make an impact on Leeds’ first team after impressing massively in South Wales.

Tales from the Bay - Will the real San Francisco 49ers please stand up?

The San Francisco 49ers are back in the game!

Four weeks into the new NFL season, northern California's finest sit atop the NFC West division after humbling the Los Angeles Rams to extend their home game-winning streak against the reigning Super Bowl champions, and have returned to the Super Bowl conversation once more. The only problem now? Week 5 looms large.

For all their domination on Monday's nationally televised stage, the 49ers have only looked like true Super Bowl contenders once in four games — okay, maybe twice if you frame Week 2's win over Seattle in the context of losing a starting quarterback and replacing him with a veteran who had barely practiced with the rest of the roster despite being present throughout training camp. Either side of that victory, two defeats — on the road in Chicago and Denver — raised questions over the team's viability; questions that were again suspended following the important divisional conquest to start the week.

Ex-Leeds United favourite compares current boss to Marcelo Bielsa with 'characteristics' praise

Former Leeds United defender Ezgjan Alioski has likened Marcelo Bielsa to his current manager at Fenerbahce, Jorge Jesus. Alioski spent the bulk of his career at Elland Road playing under Bielsa, appearing 126 times during the Argentine’s tenure at Elland Road.

The North Macedonia international was a regular part of Leeds’ success during the first three years of Bielsa’s time in charge, scoring five goals and providing five assists in the promotion campaign, and missing just two matches in the season the Whites finished ninth in the Premier League.

Alioski then ended his four-year stay with Leeds in the summer of 2021, joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli. Despite six goals and nine assists, Al-Ahli were relegated from the top-flight and so Alioski made the move to Fenerbahce on loan.
