Leeds United news as Leif Davis draws on Whites experience to help Bournemouth's Championship promotion chase

Here are the latest Leeds United morning headlines on Wednesday, 26 January 2022.

Davis using Leeds promotion experience to help Bournemouth

When he was signed on loan by Scott Parker at the beginning of the season, Leif Davis brought something rather unique for a young player: experience.

Bournemouth are hoping to do what Leeds did in 2019/20 and brought in the 22-year-old to aid their bid for promotion.

Having struggled for game time he has now started each of the Cherries’ last three games in all competitions.

When asked what is needed to be promoted from the Championship, he told the Daily Echo: “It’s a difficult league. It’s all about fight, to be fair. If you are coming into the games, every Championship game is hard.

“It doesn’t matter about the table, you are coming into the game like every team is going to be a difficult opponent.

“You need to fight to get out the league. You don’t come into the game and just ease through games. You’ve got to fight.”

Gelhardt preparing for first-team return?

Joe Gelhardt’s emergence in the Leeds team this season has certainly been welcome at a time when Patrick Bamford has been largely unable to stay fully fit.

When the young forward got injured earlier this month, there was plenty of worry among the Whites' fanbase. He came off the bench in the defeat to Newcastle and supporters will be hoping he is ready to play from the start when the Premier League returns.

For much of the current campaign, he has been splitting minutes between the first team and the U23s but didn’t feature for Mark Jackson’s side on Monday evening.

He was at the match though as he watched his team mates fall to a crushing 4-0 defeat from the stands, suggesting that he is now considered a much bigger part of the senior squad.

Summerville hoping to buck Bielsa loanee trend

For the entirety of his stay as Leeds manager so far, a player going out on loan has often meant he is no longer a part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.

Those players are usually sent to teams operating in the lower leagues either in England or around Europe as they fail to make a mark on the first team at Elland Road.

Cody Drameh’s loan departure already looks as though it will buck that trend and, if Crysencio Summerville is also loaned out, he too will be hoping to return to a place in the senior side.

Both of those players have benefitted from the injury crisis at the club this term and have earned valuable Premier League experience. They have shown that they are more than good enough to have an impact at the top level in the future.

A move to Hamburg in the German second tier potentially beckons for Summerville where he will be hoping to stand out as a key performer in their promotion push.
