Leeds United news as Joao Felix makes surprise Leeds admission, Patrick Bamford hails youth set-up

Joao Felix names Leeds as his favourite PL club

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix has named Leeds as his favourite club in the Premier League in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

The 22-year-old was linked with a move to England in the summer with Manchester United, before Erik ten Hag signed his former Ajax winger Antony for £86million.

Felix became the second most expensive teenager when he swapped Benfica for Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £113million in 2019.

The Portugal international has registered 29 goals and 18 assists in 119 matches across all competitions for Atletico. He lifted the La Liga title in his second campaign in 2021 and was named Atletico's Player of the Season last term.

Bamford praises 'bright' Leeds quartet

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford believes the club’s future is bright with the amount of talented youngsters pushing for the first team. Bamford played alongside several of them as he netted a hat-trick in the under-21s’ 6-2 win over Southampton on Friday.

The academy is an area of the club that has received significant investment since promotion to the Premier League in 2020. Several youngsters have been brought in for decent money and in the last 12 months that has started to pay dividends as they begin to filter into the senior side.

Bamford spoke highly of the three summer signings Darko Gyabi, Wilfried Gnonto and Sonny Perkins, while also praising Crysencio Summerville. He did insist, though, there is plenty to improve on, particularly after a sloppy final 20 minutes that saw Southampton score twice.

Financial impact of relegation battle laid bare

Leeds have seen the largest drop in Premier League television fund distribution across all twenty teams between the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.

The Premier League published the details on their TV payments from last season last week, which amounted to £2.5 billion with Manchester City receiving the most (£153m) and Norwich City receiving the least (£101m).

The largest increases from 2020/21 to 2021/22 were Brighton who went up £16m, Aston Villa who went up £11m and Tottenham Hotspur who went up £8m.
