Jesse Marsch emerges as first choice as potential Bielsa successor
A story broke last week naming three options Leeds United were looking at to succeed Marcelo Bielsa, should the club or the Argentine decide not to continue their partnership beyond a fourth season.
According to the Telegraph, the first choice is American coach, Jesse Marsch. The 49-year-old was most recently employed by RB Leipzig but was fired after less than half the season, following struggles to reimplement his pressing first style, when the team were more used to Julian Nagelsmann's more possession heavy style.
It is believed that Leeds see Marsch as a suitable candidate to follow Bielsa due to their desire to continue in a fast tempo, pressing style after Bielsa. However, whilst is has been a difficult season, it remains unclear whether the club or Bielsa will wish to move on. In previous seasons, all parties have wanted to continue.
Jesse Marsch profiled
With the above reports coming out this afternoon, Leeds Live has provided a profile on the American coach for those unfamiliar with his career before being linked to Leeds.
Marsch has spent the last seven years working within the Red Bull system, working for the New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig. He was also assistant coach for the USA in World Cup 2010 as the USA won their group ahead of England.
Merson makes Manchester United prediction
Leeds face a crunch match with Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday, with the Red Devils struggling for form under Ralf Rangnick. Despite their 3-0 loss to Everton last weekend, pundit Paul Merson has stated he would have 'probably backed' Leeds to get a result against their arch-rivals, were it not for the Whites' injury issues.
“If Leeds had all their players fit, I would’ve probably fancied them, but it has to be said that the way they play suits Manchester United," Merson told SportsKeeda.
However, the ex-Arsenal man plumped for a 3-1 Manchester United win in his prediction.
