Leeds United news as Jesse Marsch delivers Patrick Bamford injury verdict

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines for Friday, August 19.

Marsch delivers Bamford injury verdict

Jesse Marsch will check on the fitness of Patrick Bamford on Saturday ahead of this weekend’s clash with Chelsea at Elland Road. The Leeds United striker could be seen limping out of last Saturday’s draw with Southampton with a tight adductor and Marsch admits he won’t risk him in the game if he’s not right.

As such, a decision will be made tomorrow from the head coach after the club’s final training session in preparation for the Premier League clash. However, Joe Gelhardt is fit to be involved after missing the tip down to St Mary’s with a dead leg.

Marsch has also revealed that club captain Liam Cooper could be fit enough to be involved against Thomas Tuchel’s side, but again, he will be assessed fully on Saturday.

Roca on Alonso and Busquets comparison

Leeds United new boy Marc Roca has played down comparisons to Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso from earlier in his career. The Whites playmaker has started both of their opening two Premier League fixtures so far this season and is expected to maintain his place this weekend.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Roca said: "I think Xabi Alonso and [Sergio] Busquets are incredible players but they're a little bit different. Busquets is more playing and Alonso is more aggressive, but I think they're incredible players and I've tried to learn a lot from them.

"Alonso played here for Liverpool and I remember watching videos and I think he did a really good job here. I think I'm a little bit in the middle of them. I try to bee sometimes like Busquets or Alonso."
