Leeds United news as Javi Gracia calls up youngster to first team training

Here are your latest Leeds United morning headlines for Saturday, March 11.

Javi Gracia calls up youngster Connor Ferguson to Leeds United senior training

Leeds United teenager Connor Ferguson became the latest youngsters to be called up by Javi Gracia to senior training.

The 19-year-old was spotted in a video of the first team training at Thorp Arch, which was posted on the club's YouTube channel.

Ferguson signed his first professional contract in January - penning a two-and-a-half year deal to extend his stay until the summer of 2025.

The left-back has played nine times for the under-18s, and has amassed a further five appearances for the under-21s in the Premier League 2.

He has impressed since being promoted into the under-21s in the New Year, and Gracia watched the teenager in action on Monday as Leeds defeated Derby County 3-0 at Thorp Arch.

Fitness unknowns

Javi Gracia hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with information about his list of injured players during his time at the club, preferring to keep journalists, fans and, most importantly, the opposition guessing. However, he did reveal that both Luis Sinisterra and Rodrigo have been training this week after overcoming their respective issues and it seems they could be involved in some capacity if considered to be fit enough.

Whether they are ready to start, though, remains to be seen. The same can be said for Patrick Bamford, who dropped out of the fold last week with a minor leg knock.

The suggestion at the time was that Bamford was expected to return to action against Brighton, but Gracia said little to clear up his situation. Liam Cooper is another pushing to make a return soon. The skipper hasn’t played since Jesse Marsch’s final game in charge at the start of February, missing the last five league games.

Leeds United boss Javi Gracia faces a number of late fitness calls ahead of the Whites' Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion at Elland Road on Saturday.

Gracia has revealed that Rodrigo and Luis Sinisterra will be evaluated in training to determine if they are fit to face the Seagulls.

Sinisterra has missed the last five games with a muscle injury and has started just twice since October. Rodrigo was ruled out with an ankle injury for three months in January, but could return earlier than anticipated.
