Leeds United news as Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville give Jesse Marsch 'stigma' verdict

Here are your Leeds United evening headlines for Wednesday, November 9.

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville give Jesse Marsch 'stigma' verdict

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have given their thoughts over Jesse Marsch's season so far with Leeds United and the stigma around his American nationality.

Marsch took over from Marcelo Bielsa when the Argentinian left the club in February, with the American guiding them to safety on the last day of the season.

And with huge back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Bournemouth, the Whites currently sit in 12th with just one game before the mid-season break for the Qatar World Cup in two weeks' time.

Speaking on Neville's show The Overlap Fan Debate, he questioned one Leeds fan whether their fanbase, as well as the wider fanbase of football in general, had a stigma against Marsch simply over where he's from.

"Is there a thing about Jesse Marsch? I thought Leeds could go down last season, is it one of those things - not necessarily because of who he's following [Marcelo Bielsa] - but because he's American? The jury has been out since day one, he's not been accepted.

"Not even just from Leeds fans, there's been mocking of him, a bit of that mocking vibe."

Carragher then went on to talk about Marsch's football style and how he is sceptical about the side defensively so far this season.

"Something I noticed with Bielsa was the width he played with [and it looks Marsch doesn't do that]. I think the back four are really poor individually. I don’t know if it is to do with the system, but you watch them, you feel as if there are mistakes there."

Neville added: "I think losing the two big players, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha in the summer was massive. l wasn’t sure about them last season, I can’t be sure now."

Crysencio Summerville eyeing Leeds United legend status as he reveals Raphinha number blessing

Crysencio Summerville has revealed he asked for the 'blessing' of Raphinha for his number because he wants to become a legend at Leeds United. Summerville was handed the 10 shirt at the start of this season following Raphinha's summer move to Barcelona.

The 21-year-old was handed a four-year deal in July but had never started a Premier League match for Leeds when he was given his new number, which as a result came as quite a surprise to supporters. But in recent weeks, Summerville has started to justify the club's faith with three goals in his last three matches, including dramatic late winners against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

Summerville was desperate for more game time during the course of last season and after being made to be patient, is now becoming a key player. Speaking in an interview with De Telegraaf, Summerville detailed his ambition of gaining legendary status at Elland Road and admitted the feeling of his recent late winners is 'indescribable.'

Wolves injuries and predicted XI ahead of Leeds United Carabao Cup clash

Wolves could potentially be without key midfielder Matheus Nunes for their Wednesday night clash against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.

The midfielder missed their weekend clash against Brighton, which saw Wolves lose 3-2 to Brighton. Nunes picked up a shoulder injury in their recent 1-1 draw with Brentford, with Wolves unsure whether or not the Portuguese international will be ready to face Leeds on Wednesday.

Interim boss Steve Davis will still be in charge of Wolves this week against Leeds despite the club naming Julen Lopetegui as their new first-team boss.
