Leeds United news as Graham Potters tells of Whites admiration ahead of Elland Road visit

Here are the latest Leeds United evening headlines on Friday, May 13.

Potter reveals Leeds respect ahead of Elland Road visit

Graham Potter will be the man in the away dug out at Elland Road when he brings his Brighton side to Leeds on Sunday afternoon. It is a huge afternoon in the relegation battle as defeat for the Whites, as well as a win for Burnley, would all-but send Jesse Marsch and his players down to the Championship.

When asked in his pre-match press conference if Leeds would be a big loss to the Premier League if they were to be relegated, Potter told SussexLive : "Yeah, of course. But I think every team in their own way is a loss, that is the beauty of the competition.

"I have a lot of respect for Leeds United as a football club, what they have achieved recently and their history in general but we can't think about that. We just have to focus on the game, focus on performing well and try to get the three points ourselves."

Marsch provides pre-Brighton injury updates

In the opposing technical area, Marsch will be more than aware of the significance of Sunday’s clash. He will be hoping to have as many of his best players available as possible and he discussed the fitness of his players earlier today.

“Jack Harrison with the contusion looks positive,” he claimed. “He should be training tomorrow and ready to go for Sunday. Rapha is fine and he'll be ready to go.

“And then Patrick Bamford, it's a little bit too early to tell where he's at. We'll evaluate that over the next days and see what that looks like for the upcoming matches.”

Robinson questions Marsch decisions in Chelsea defeat

The importance of the final two games of the season has been exacerbated by the last few results, and performances. The defeat against Chelsea was particularly damning after Leeds never really had a chance of winning following the early red card and even earlier concession.

Paul Robinson wasn’t too impressed by Marsch’s comment after the game as the American claimed he felt his side were in the game before Dan James was sent off. On the Football Daily podcast, the former Whites goalkeeper said: "I didn't witness the same game as what he is talking about. I thought Leeds were poor.

"They caused themselves a lot of problems again by conceding the early goal. They've got a real problem with discipline. Luke Ayling's sending off at the weekend against Arsenal and then Dan James' inexplicable tackle.

"You've got to question the manager, the way he's set the team up. He played five at the back and Leeds' most creative player, attacking player, goalscorer, Raphinha - he plays him as a right wing-back. It wasn't until Dan James got sent off that he moved Raphinha further up the field.”
